Research areas: 

Author of more than 150 publications on the history of law - the history of the Latvian notariat, the history of legal education in Europe and Latvia, the history of Riga city law and the history of women's rights in Latvia, constitutional law, in particular constitutional values - human dignity, the Latvian language, the rule of law, democracy, justice and equality. Published research on sociology of law (e.g. legal efficiency and legal culture) and legal ethics, particularly the professional ethics of judges.

  • Professor is working at the University of Latvia since 1991, 2001-2011. Head of the Department of Theory and History of Law.

  • Member of the Research Committee on Sociology of Law (RCSL).
  • Awarded the Honorary Medal of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia, 3rd degree; Certificate of Gratitude of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Latvia for contribution to the development of the judicial system and legal policy; Awarded the Honorary Medal of the Latvian State Police "Latvian State Police 100"; Title 2020. European Person of the Year in Latvia; awarded the Arvedas Švābe Namabalta in Latvian History by the Latvian Academy of Sciences for the collection of articles "Nation, Language, Rule of Law: Towards Tomorrow"; appointed Commander of the Order of the Three Stars (awarded the Order of the Three Stars, 3rd Class); awarded the Latvian Pen Club Award for strengthening freedom of expression, reducing the threat of censorship and self-censorship, and advocating for the rights of discriminated groups; Riga Pride 2022 - Diversity Award; awarded the 1st Degree Honorary Badge of the Justice System; awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Constitutional Court for her contribution to strengthening Latvia as a democratic, law-abiding, socially responsible and sustainable state.
  • Since 2017, she has been working for the National Encyclopaedia, writing sections on European legal history, sociology of law and constitutional values. A total of 31 articles have been published up to 2024.
